Abstract
The relationship between degree of inflammation and -keratinization was studied by means of various
histological procedures such as, Pharr modification of the Papanicolaou stain and Ayoub modification of the

Mallory connective tissue stain, as well as routine hematoxylin-eosin stain in gingival tissue.
The tissues were taken from 13 patients who have inflamed gingivae and 9 individuals have normal gingivae. The results were as follows;

In normal case, attached gingivae were revealed full-keratinization and para-keratinization, but free gingivae were revealed para-keratinization in most -cases.
2) In inflamed case, attached gingivae were revealed para-keratinization and incompletely Para=keratinization, but free gingivae were revealed incompletely para-keratinization and non-keratinization in most cases. Degree of keratinization & inflammation are inversely related in normal and inflamed gingival regions.
